La Valdicecina Pomarance Volterra

The tall Val of Cecina, constituted by the town territories of Castelnuovo Val of Cecina, Montecatini Val of Cecina, Pomarance and Volterra, it is delimited to west from the Val of Cornia and from the low Val of Cecina, to north from the Val of were, to east from on high Val of hilt and to south from metalliferous hills. It possesses a rich patrimony of historical, artistic, archaeological and landscape goods nearly to constituting a "unicum" in Tuscan much to inspire writers, write poetry and painters that Rose, Stendhal, Lawrence, Dennis, Corot, D'Annunzio and Cassola.

In fact, besides millennial testimonies of Etruscan, Roman, medieval and Renaissance civilizations disseminated on the territory and guarded in prevalence to Volterra, city of art and center cultural of the whole valley, the Val of Cecina underlines a rich variety of landscapes that go from the metalliferous hills to the wooded areas as the forests of Berignone-touches and Monterufoli, from the Mediterranean stain, to the landscape of the "volterrane hills" constituted by badlandses, crags and knolls from the sweet slope.

On the oriental slant of the knoll the cross rises Montecatini Val of Cecina.

the ancient Monteleone, tied to the apron strings of a tower, to whose feet stretches the inhabited area with characters charasteristic of the medieval center built about to representative elements of the can political and religious that it is identified in the magisterial building with an elegant portico and in the fourteenth-century S. Biagio church.

Montegemoli is characterized by the emergent structure of the castle with its round tower and with its Renaissance forms. Pomarance preserves important footprint of its ancient past as the Orciolina gate and the gate of hamlet of the building fourteenth-century wall, the church of Midsummer day with paintings of the Roncalli, of the Cercignani and of the Ademollo, the magisterial building and the curly buildings, hovels, Bardini and from Larderel.
Montecastelli is characterized by a thick tower to basic square of medieval epoch and from the Romanesque church of SS. Philip and James (sec. XIII) to three dense aisles of pillars with show up capitals. in the proximities of the cemetery, himself you find the hole of the fairies, an Etruscan hypogeum of the sec. VI b.C.
to S. Dalmazio I am interesting the rests of medieval tack with two gates that contains the inhabited area from the nearly circular form and the church of Romanesque forms that preserves a tabernacle in terracotta of the shop of shines of the madder. in the neighbourhood the rests of the imposing Sillana fortress.
Also Montecerboli has the circular structure of an ancient castle with medieval suburb. Castelnuovo Val of Cecina is surrounded by a wooded landscape and preserves its urban form "to cluster" where the different phases are can distinguish of expansion.
Pisan stone structures about to its more ancient nucleus, the castle, set in the point more elevated than the place. Serrazzano, interesting by the urbanistic point of view, preserve of the medieval period two gates of the building wall and traces of the building plinth to shoe, and the S. church given that presents inside interesting Gothic times and the attractive S. Anthony Romanesque church. A tower to square plant and the S. Martino church characterizes the inhabited area of the Sassa, while to the right, on a rocky spur rises Querceto, interesting for all the the constructions that compose the castle villa and the stupendous parish of S. Giovanni.

The alabaster, with whom is realized products of refined craftsmanship, the rock salt, extracted in industries of salt pans of Volterra, and the heat of boraciferous blow-pipes that comes exploited in the thermoelectric plants of Larderello, typical industrial center with the church planed by Michelucci and with an interesting museum of the geothermal energy.

Also Ponteginori, built in 1919 from the Solvay society, constitutes in Val of Cecina an only example of industrial village charasteristic of the mining north-country areas Europe. Finally Libbiano, Micciano, Lustignano and La Leccia ilex on knolls attests even in the urban form the ancient of a castle origin.

The more in shore Tyrrhenian center is Monteverdi Marittimo, whose territory is mantled by a thick wooded coverage ( with the natural reserve of tollgates ) from which emerge the chief town and the suburb of Canneto, that preserve still the physiognomy of the medieval installation, and the ruins of the abbey of Saint Peter in Palazzuolo, that drew origin from the monastery founded in 754 from the noble Walfredo.
